CHEVALINE — 2012 · Unsolved Case
The Chevaline Killings
On the afternoon of 5 September 2012, on the Combe d'Ire forest road above the village of Chevaline near Lake Annecy, a British-Iraqi engineer on holiday, his wife and his mother-in-law were found shot in their car. A local French cyclist nearby was also killed. The family's two young daughters survived. Investigators examined numerous hypotheses, including the engineer's work, a family inheritance dispute and whether the cyclist had been the intended target; the old Swiss army pistol used was never found. Large reconstructions were staged in 2021 and 2024. People taken into custody were released without charge, and the case remains unsolved.
