Assassination of Adana police chief Cevat Yurdakul
Adana police chief Cevat Yurdakul was killed in an armed attack in Adana on 28 September 1979. It was one of the gravest examples of the political violence that intensified in Çukurova before the 1980 coup. The investigation led to an ultranationalist group. One of the perpetrators was caught after a long period as a fugitive and sentenced to 36 years in 1997. The case returned to the news in 2006 because of new developments concerning one of the perpetrators.
