Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia (folk tale)

Fisher's Ghost

Folklore — not a documented case

In 1826 the ghost of a missing Australian man is said to have sat on a fence over a creek and pointed to where his body lay, solving his murder.

Campbelltown is today one of Sydney's south-western suburbs, but in the early 19th century it was a small farming town. Australia's most famous ghost story takes place here in 1826. It is so well loved that the town holds a festival named after it every November.
