2016 Kayseri Bombing
On the morning of 17 December 2016, a car bomb struck a public bus carrying off-duty soldiers of the 1st Commando Brigade on Talas Boulevard near Erciyes University in Kayseri. Initial reports said 14 soldiers had been killed and 55 people injured; a wounded soldier later died, bringing the toll to 15. The attack was treated as linked to the PKK. The 15 soldiers are remembered every 17 December at ceremonies in Kayseri. The blast happened on a busy boulevard while the soldiers were in town on weekend leave. Coming shortly after a bomb attack in Istanbul the same month, it caused a strong reaction across the country.
