On the night of 20 August 2016, a suicide bomber attacked a street wedding in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep. Fifty-seven people, many of them women and children, were killed. The attack was attributed to ISIS. In a trial moved to Kayseri for security reasons, the court in 2019 sentenced eight defendants to aggravated life imprisonment and two to prison terms for membership of the organisation; two were acquitted for lack of evidence.
