Air India Express Flight 812 Crash
On the morning of 22 May 2010, Air India Express Flight 812, a Boeing 737-800 arriving from Dubai, overran the runway on landing at Mangalore, broke through the boundary wall and plunged into a deep gorge on Kenjar hill, where it caught fire. Of the 166 people on board, 158 were killed and eight survived. The crash at Mangalore's tabletop runway was among India's deadliest aviation disasters. Investigators found that the captain had continued an unstabilised approach despite three go-around calls from the first officer and had touched down far along the runway. Some victims' remains could still not be identified years later.
