The TransAsia Flight 235 Crash — Keelung River

ClosedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 4 February 2015 TransAsia Airways Flight 235, an ATR 72-600 bound from Taipei Songshan Airport to Kinmen island, suffered an engine failure about two minutes after take-off. The pilots mistakenly shut down the remaining working engine; the aircraft lost height, clipped an elevated highway and a taxi on it with its left wing, and plunged into the Keelung River about 5 km from the airport. Of the 58 people on board, 43 were killed and 15 survived with injuries. Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council found that the captain had pulled back the wrong throttle and had failed simulator training on handling engine failure less than a year earlier. It was the airline's second fatal crash within a year; TransAsia ceased operations in 2016.
