The Uherský Brod Restaurant Shooting
Around midday on 24 February 2015 a 63-year-old gunman entered the Družba restaurant in Uherský Brod, killing eight people and wounding one. He remained inside for about two hours and took his own life when a tactical unit stormed the building. According to Czech public radio, he had called a local television station beforehand, complaining that police were not solving his problems and threatening to take matters into his own hands. The interior minister said it was not a terrorist attack. It was the deadliest mass killing in Czechia in about 40 years and prompted scrutiny of firearms licensing.
