ACCRA — 2019 · Unsolved Case
Murder of Journalist Ahmed Suale
Investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale was shot dead by two gunmen on a motorcycle while driving home in Accra's Madina suburb on the evening of 16 January 2019. He had been part of the team behind a high-profile undercover documentary exposing bribery and corruption in African football, and had reportedly received threats after his photograph was shown and his identity exposed on a television programme. Police detained six people a month later but released them for lack of evidence. A suspect arrested in 2025 also had his case discontinued in October 2025 for lack of evidence. Press freedom groups continue to highlight the unsolved killing.
