OLIVOS — 1972 · Serial Murder
Robledo Puch — "The Angel of Death"
Raised in a middle-class family in Olivos, Carlos Eduardo Robledo Puch committed a series of robberies and murders in northern Greater Buenos Aires in 1971 and 1972. The victims, mostly night watchmen and workers at businesses, were killed while asleep or defenceless; one of his accomplices was also among the dead. Because of his youth and baby face, the press called him "the Angel of Death". He was arrested on 4 February 1972; in 1973 he escaped from prison and was on the run for 68 hours. In 1980 he was sentenced to life imprisonment for numerous crimes, including at least 11 murders. Having spent more than 54 years behind bars, he is South America's longest-serving prisoner.
