The Los Roques Plane — Disappearance of Vittorio Missoni
On 4 January 2013 a small Britten-Norman Islander aircraft that took off from the Los Roques archipelago for Caracas vanished from radar shortly after departure. On board were six people: Vittorio Missoni, an executive of the Italian fashion house Missoni, his wife, two Italian friends and two Venezuelan crew members. Venezuela and Italy carried out weeks of sea and air searches, but no trace was found. In June 2013 a search vessel located the wreck at a depth of around 70 metres north of Los Roques. The bodies were recovered in October 2013. The exact cause of the crash remained disputed.
