Night Attacks in South-West Seoul (2004-2006)

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Between January 2004 and April 2006 a series of attacks took place in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, and in Seoul's south-western districts (Guro, Gwanak, Sillim). The offender mostly targeted women walking home late at night and people asleep in their homes; at least 13 people were killed and many more injured. In April 2006 Jeong Nam-gyu was caught thanks to the resistance of a father and son in a house he entered, and he confessed. The investigation also revealed that another serial killer had falsely claimed one of these murders. The Supreme Court upheld his death sentence in April 2007; he took his own life in prison in November 2009.
