FUJIMI — 2009 · Serial Murder

The "Marriage Site" Deaths — Saitama and Tokyo

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

In August 2009 a 41-year-old man found dead in his car in a car park in Fujimi, Saitama, was at first thought to have taken his own life. But investigators found that the woman he was seeing had taken money from several men she met through marriage-matching websites, and that some of those men had died in suspicious circumstances. Kanae Kijima was arrested for fraud in September 2009 and later tried for the murders of three men. Despite scarce direct evidence, the Saitama District Court sentenced her to death in 2012 on circumstantial evidence. Japan's Supreme Court upheld the sentence in April 2017. The press called the case the "konkatsu" (marriage-hunting) killings.
