The Strossmayer Square Truck Attack

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 10 July 1973, at Strossmayer Square in Prague 7, a 22-year-old woman deliberately drove a rented truck into a crowded tram stop. Eight people aged between 60 and 79 died and twelve were injured. Before the attack she had sent letters to two newspapers declaring revenge on society. Prague City Court sentenced her to death in April 1974, and the sentence was carried out at Pankrác Prison on 12 March 1975. She was the last woman executed in Czechoslovakia. The case inspired the 2016 film "I, Olga Hepnarová" and is often cited in debates on mental health and the death penalty.
