PRAGUE — 1981 · Serial Murder
The Ladislav Hojer Case
Between 1978 and 1981, five women were killed in different towns of Czechoslovakia, including Děčín, Prague, Brno and Košice. For a long time the killings were treated as unrelated cases. The investigation into a murder in October 1981 led to the arrest of a young man living in Prague on 11 February 1982. Under questioning he confessed to the other murders and to numerous sexual assaults; criminologists believed the true number of victims could be higher. After psychiatric evaluations, Ladislav Hojer was sentenced to death and executed at Prague's Pankrác Prison on 7 August 1986. The case entered criminology literature as one of the gravest serial murder cases in Czechoslovakia.
