PERTH — 1996 · Serial Murder
The Claremont Serial Murders
Between 1996 and 1997, three young women disappeared from the Perth suburb of Claremont, Australia; two were later found dead, and one was never found. The case led to the longest and most expensive investigation in Western Australian history. About twenty years later, a re-examination of DNA in preserved evidence identified a telecommunications technician as a suspect. In 2020, he was found guilty of two murders and sentenced to life imprisonment; he was acquitted in the third case for lack of evidence.
