DUBAI — 2010 · Unsolved Case
Assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh
Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, a founder of Hamas's military wing, was killed in a Dubai hotel room on 19 January 2010; his body was found the next day. Using hotel and airport CCTV footage, Dubai police said they had identified more than 26 suspects travelling on European and Australian passports, most forged or stolen from real people. Dubai's police chief blamed Israel's Mossad; Israel neither confirmed nor denied involvement. Over the misuse of passports, Britain and Australia each expelled an Israeli diplomat. No suspect has ever been tried.
