The Vatfa Ecevit case
In the Artuklu district of Mardin, 27-year-old Vatfa Ecevit, who had returned home two days after giving birth in the hospital, was fatally stabbed by her husband. The local court sentenced the defendant to aggravated life imprisonment. The regional court of appeal rejected the defense's requests for reductions on grounds of unjust provocation and good conduct, and also ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support a finding of 'killing with monstrous intent.' The case file was forwarded to the Court of Cassation for a final ruling.
