The Eylem Yeşilkaya case
On 13 July 2025, in a container settlement in the Yeşilyurt district of Malatya, 25-year-old Eylem Yeşilkaya, a mother of two, was fatally stabbed by her husband, with whom she was said to have been having marital difficulties. She was taken to the hospital but could not be saved. The Malatya 5th Heavy Penal Court convicted the defendant of 'intentionally killing a woman' and sentenced him to aggravated life imprisonment, applying no discretionary reduction whatsoever.
