Lawang Sewu: The Thousand Doors
Folklore — not a documented case
The Dutch-era railway headquarters in Semarang is said to be one of Indonesia's most haunted buildings because of the suffering in its basement during the war years.
Lawang Sewu means 'a thousand doors' in Javanese. This grand building in Semarang, capital of Central Java, was built between 1904 and 1907 as the headquarters of the Dutch East Indies Railway Company. It takes its name from its many doors and arched windows.
