Pelabuhan Ratu, West Java, Indonesia (folk belief)
Queen of the Southern Sea and Room 308
Folklore — not a documented case
Nyi Roro Kidul, queen of the seas, is believed to dwell off Java's south coast. A hotel in Pelabuhan Ratu has for decades reserved its Room 308 for her alone.
Nyi Roro Kidul (Nyai Loro Kidul) is, in Javanese and Sundanese belief, a spiritual queen who rules the Indian Ocean, Java's 'Southern Sea'. Javanese court tradition holds that she shares a spiritual bond with the sultans of Yogyakarta and Surakarta, and this belief is still honoured in respected ceremonies today.
