Chiloé, Chile (folk tale)
The Ghost Ship Caleuche
Folklore — not a documented case
In Chile's Chiloé archipelago, a ghost ship crewed by sorcerers is said to glide through the fog at night, full of lights and music.
Chile's southern Chiloé archipelago is known for its misty bays and rich folk beliefs, and the most famous of these is the ghost ship called the Caleuche. According to the tales, the ship appears on dark nights over the sea, its decks blazing with light, with music, laughter and dancing drifting from within. But when anyone approaches, it suddenly vanishes or turns into a rock or a sea creature.
