La Planchada: The Ironed Nurse

Folklore — not a documented case

At the old Hospital Juárez in Mexico City, a ghostly nurse in a perfectly ironed uniform is said to care for patients during the night shift.

Mexico's best-known hospital legend is that of La Planchada, the Ironed Woman, a nurse whose story is most often linked to the old Hospital Juárez in the historic centre of Mexico City. According to the tales, a nurse in an old-fashioned uniform, starched and immaculately pressed, is seen walking the corridors at night.
