Angus, Scotland — Glamis Castle (folk tale)

Glamis Castle and Earl Beardie

Folklore — not a documented case

Legend says a 15th-century nobleman nicknamed “Earl Beardie” insisted on playing cards on the Sabbath and ended up at the table with the Devil; ever since, the sound of dice and cards is said to come from a sealed room.

Glamis Castle, in the Angus region of Scotland, has been the seat of the Lyon (later Bowes-Lyon) family for centuries. Thanks to its association with Shakespeare's Macbeth and its countless ghost stories, it is one of the most legend-laden castles in Scotland.
