The Entebbe and Nansana Women Murders

UnsolvedSources: BLast updated: 14 October 2026

Between May and September 2017 at least 20 women, most of them young and on low incomes, were found murdered in similar circumstances in Entebbe and Nansana near Kampala; police records later put the number of women killed in the wave at 28. The killings spread deep fear and women marched to demand protection. Police offered shifting explanations ranging from ritual killings to criminal gangs, and more than 30 people were arrested. One man was sentenced to life in 2019 for one of the Nansana murders, but three people accused of masterminding the killings were acquitted for lack of evidence in January 2020. The wave as a whole has never been fully explained.
