FEILDING — 2010 · Unsolved Case
The Murder of Scott Guy
Farmer Scott Guy, 31, was found shot dead by a passer-by at the entrance to his family farm near Feilding on the morning of 8 July 2010. The killing shook the small farming town. Six months later a person from the family's close circle was charged with murder; the prosecution cited tensions over farm work and inheritance as a motive. The case dominated New Zealand headlines for two years. At a 2012 jury trial the accused was acquitted of murder, though he was jailed for other offences. The coroner declined to reopen the file and police said they were not looking for anyone else. Guy's family continue to say they hope the truth will one day come out.
