COMILLA — 2016 · Unsolved Case
The Murder of Sohagi Jahan Tonu
Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a 19-year-old student at Comilla Victoria College, was found murdered on 20 March 2016 inside the Comilla military cantonment, where she had gone to give private tuition. The killing in a restricted area sparked nationwide student protests. The case went to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 1 April 2016 and was transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in 2020. Despite six investigating officers from four agencies, for years no one was arrested and no report was filed. In April 2026 a court approved DNA sampling of three people and a retired army warrant officer became the first person detained. The investigation continues; there is no final verdict.
