UDINE — 1971 · Serial Murder
The Monster of Udine
'The Monster of Udine' is the name given to an unidentified serial killer believed to have murdered women in the province of Udine, north-eastern Italy, between 1971 and 1989. Four killings are officially attributed to him: women killed in 1980, 1983, 1985 and 1989, including sex workers and a primary-school teacher. Some researchers believe the true number of victims may be higher. Findings on the bodies led investigators to suspect someone with medical knowledge, but no lead ever reached a suspect. In March 2019 a reopening was requested on the basis of never-analysed evidence, and some items were sent to the Carabinieri forensic laboratory. The killer remains unknown.
