BAD HOMBURG — 1989 · Unsolved Case
Assassination of Alfred Herrhausen
Alfred Herrhausen, spokesman of the board of Deutsche Bank, was killed on the morning of 30 November 1989 near his home in Bad Homburg when a bomb hidden on a bicycle by the roadside exploded as his armoured car passed. The device was triggered when the car broke a light beam. The far-left Red Army Faction (RAF) claimed responsibility, but who planned and carried out the attack has never been proven. An informant who confessed in 1991 later retracted his statement. Despite a large federal reward, no one has been tried and the investigation remains open against unknown persons. The killing came just three weeks after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
