The Murder of Rosemarie Nitribitt

UnsolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Rosemarie Nitribitt, 24, one of the most talked-about women in 1950s Frankfurt because of her links to prominent men, was found dead on 1 November 1957 in her flat on Stiftstraße near the Eschenheimer Tor, with strangulation marks and a head wound. She had been dead for at least a day. The investigation was marred by errors in gathering evidence, missing files and uncertainty over what had been taken from the flat, and no firm lead emerged. The case inspired films and debate about West Germany's "economic miracle" era. The murder remains unsolved.
