CRONULLA — 1965 · Unsolved Case
Wanda Beach Murders (1965)
On 11 January 1965 two 15-year-old friends who had gone to Wanda Beach near Cronulla, south of Sydney, were killed; their bodies were found in the sand dunes the next day. By April 1966 police had interviewed some 7,000 people, at that point the largest investigation in Australian history. The case was reopened in 2000, and in February 2012 police announced that a weak male DNA profile had been obtained from the evidence, though it was not sufficient to identify an offender. It is regarded as New South Wales' oldest unsolved homicide.
