The Murder of Sallie-Anne Huckstepp
Writer and former sex worker Sallie-Anne Huckstepp began speaking out publicly through the media about corruption in the New South Wales police after her partner was shot dead by a police officer in 1981. On the night of 6 February 1986 she hurriedly left her Sydney home after receiving a phone call. The next morning a jogger saw her body in Busby's Pond in Centennial Park. Her death became the subject of one of Australia's longest-running inquests, which began in 1987 and lasted until 1991. The coroner found there was insufficient evidence to recommend charges and ruled that she had been murdered by a person or persons unknown. The case remains unsolved.
