RIGA — 2000 · Serial Murder
The Riga cases
Between 2000 and 2003, a series of robberies and killings targeting elderly women living alone took place in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The perpetrator either followed his victims home or gained entry by posing as a gas-company employee. He was apprehended in February 2003. The investigation linked him to 38 incidents, but he was tried in the 13 cases for which sufficient forensic evidence existed. In 2005, the Riga Regional Court found the defendant guilty of 13 murders and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
