The Jarosław Ziętara case

UnsolvedSources: CLast updated: 14 October 2026

On 1 September 1992, 24-year-old investigative journalist Jarosław Ziętara disappeared in Poznań, Poland, and was never seen again. Before his disappearance he had published articles on irregularities in the privatization of state companies and on smuggling in border regions. The case made no progress for years; following a campaign by his family and colleagues, prosecutors reopened the investigation in 2011 and concluded that the journalist may have been killed because of his reporting. The trial of a businessman accused of ordering the killing, which began in 2016, ended in acquittal in 2024. His body was never found, and the case remains unresolved.
