LOS ANGELES — 1962 · Suspicious Death
The Death of Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe, one of the most famous film stars in the world, died aged 36 on the night of 4 August 1962 at her home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles; she was found in her bedroom in the early hours of 5 August. The cause of death was barbiturate poisoning. The Los Angeles County coroner recorded it as a 'probable suicide'. In the following decades, claims of murder or accident, often tied to her links with prominent politicians, became widespread. The Los Angeles District Attorney's office reviewed the case in 1982, found no evidence to support the murder theories and did not dispute the original findings. The official conclusion stands, but her death remains one of popular culture's most debated events.
