TEL AVIV — 1933 · Unsolved Case
Assassination of Haim Arlosoroff
Haim Arlosoroff, a leading Zionist figure and head of the Jewish Agency's political department, was shot on the night of 16 June 1933 while walking with his wife on the Tel Aviv beach and died the next day. The British Mandate authorities tried two men from the right-wing Revisionist movement; one was convicted in 1934 but the verdict was overturned for lack of corroborating evidence, and the other was acquitted. The killing caused a deep feud between the left and right wings of the Jewish community lasting decades. An official commission of inquiry set up in 1982 reported in 1985 that it could not determine who the killers were.
