Miryang, South Korea (folk tale)
The Ghost of Arang
Folklore — not a documented case
In Korea's best-known ghost story, the spirit of the murdered young Arang is said to have appeared for years to the magistrates sent to Miryang, demanding justice.
The legend of Arang is one of Korea's oldest and best-known ghost stories, set in the city of Miryang in South Korea. On a bluff above the Miryang River stands the Joseon-era Yeongnamnu pavilion, and beside it the Aranggak shrine dedicated to Arang's spirit.
