Japan (classic folklore)

The Oni Belief

Folklore — not a documented case

A general term in Japanese folklore for horned, powerful, and generally malevolent demon-like beings. A figure both feared and, in some regional festivals, used symbolically to ward off evil, within thousands of years of Japanese folk culture.

Oni, the most recognized category of being in Japanese folklore, are generally depicted as horned, large, sharp-toothed figures with colored skin (usually red or blue).
