The Care-Home Nurse Murders

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Between 2007 and 2016 a nurse working in care homes in south-western Ontario killed eight elderly residents in her care with insulin overdoses and attempted to kill six more. Because the deaths were assumed to be natural, they went unnoticed for years. The crimes came to light only when she herself confessed in 2016. In June 2017 she received eight concurrent life sentences for eight first-degree murders, four attempted murders and two aggravated assaults. The case led to a public inquiry into oversight and medication control in long-term care homes, which reported in 2019 with wide-ranging recommendations on systemic weaknesses.
