The Disappearance of Guy-André Kieffer
French-Canadian freelance journalist Guy-André Kieffer was investigating irregularities in Côte d'Ivoire's cocoa sector and the use of its revenues. On 16 April 2004 he went to a meeting in the car park of an Abidjan shopping centre and vanished without trace. A judicial investigation was opened in France in May 2004; the French investigating judge questioned many people, and an Ivorian army officer was detained in France. In 2012 a body thought possibly to be Kieffer's was exhumed near Issia, but DNA tests did not confirm it. The journalist's fate has remained unknown for more than twenty years.
