HARARE — 2015 · Missing Person
The Disappearance of Itai Dzamara
Journalist and activist Itai Dzamara was handcuffed by five unidentified men at a barbershop in Harare's Glen View suburb on 9 March 2015, bundled into a white pick-up truck and never seen again. In 2014 he had launched sit-in protests in Africa Unity Square in the capital demanding accountability from the government. Following an application by his wife, Zimbabwe's High Court ordered the police and security services to search for him and report every two weeks, but the order was reportedly never fully complied with. In 2025 Amnesty International marked ten years without answers. His fate remains unknown.
