Kushchyovskaya Massacre

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

On 4 November 2010, 12 people, including four children, were killed at the home of a wealthy farmer in the village of Kushchyovskaya in Krasnodar Krai; visiting guests were among the victims. The investigation exposed a criminal gang that had operated in the area for years with links to local officials. Because the gang had long gone unpunished, the case became a symbol of local government and police corruption in Russia, and many officials in the region were dismissed. In 2013 the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced the gang leader and two main perpetrators to life imprisonment and other members to 19-20 years. Two gang members died while in custody, and the gang leader died in prison in 2014.
