TOKYO — 2000 · Murder
Lucie Blackman Case
Lucie Blackman, a 21-year-old British woman working as a hostess in Tokyo's Roppongi district, disappeared in July 2000. The investigation, amplified by her family's international appeals, led to the discovery of her remains in a seaside cave in Miura in February 2001. The businessman arrested was sentenced to life in 2007 for crimes against other women but acquitted in the Blackman case for lack of direct evidence. In December 2008 the Tokyo High Court found him guilty of abducting her and dismembering and concealing her body, though it was not proven that he caused her death. The Supreme Court rejected his appeal in 2010.
