The Death of Stick Run Creator Manuel Otto
Marc-Manuel Alexander Otto was the German developer known for Stick Run, a browser game he created at the age of 14. The simple stick-figure obstacle runner passed 40 million likes on Facebook and became part of the childhood of millions of players. In March 2026, Otto told his followers he had cancer. On the evening of 20 October 2026, the 30-year-old was reported to have taken his own life by setting himself on fire during a livestream on Twitch. Twitch removed the stream and its recordings. The Stick Run team confirmed his death, said the game had been part of many players' childhoods, and asked people not to spread unverified information. Local police in Bavaria opened an investigation; no official statement on the death has been released yet. If you are going through a hard time, you are not alone: in an emergency, call your local emergency number.
