LOKSBERGEN — 2010 · Serial Murder
The Loksbergen Murders
On the night of 2–3 January 2010 a young couple from the village of Loksbergen, part of Halen, were found dead in their burning car. Suspicion fell on their neighbour, teacher Ronald Janssen. Arrested on 4 January, he confessed to killing the couple and also an 18-year-old woman from Diest who vanished while cycling home in April 2007 and was found days later in the Albert Canal. The hidden life of a man known as a respected teacher shocked Belgium. The Tongeren assize court sentenced him to life imprisonment in October 2011. At a second trial in 2012 he was also convicted of further assaults.
