Disappearance of Agnès Le Roux

SolvedSources: ALast updated: 14 October 2026

Agnès Le Roux, 29, an heiress to Nice's famous Palais de la Méditerranée casino, vanished at the end of October 1977 during the All Saints holiday; neither she nor her car was ever found. Her disappearance came amid fierce rivalry between Nice casinos and a family dispute over shares. Police initially considered suicide, but her mother's persistent campaign kept the case open for decades. Her former lover, a lawyer, was tried repeatedly: acquitted in 2006, convicted on appeal in 2007, retried after the European Court of Human Rights found his trial unfair, and definitively sentenced to 20 years in Rennes in April 2014. Agnès Le Roux's body has never been found.
