DUBLIN — 1997 · Murder
The Grangegorman Murders
In March 1997 two women aged 59 and 61 were found killed in their sheltered accommodation in Grangegorman, Dublin. A confession by another man, later found to be unreliable, stalled the investigation for years. A man jailed for life for a double murder in Roscommon later that year had also claimed responsibility for the Grangegorman killings. DNA traces recovered from a jacket using newer forensic techniques reopened the case. In 2015 a Central Criminal Court jury unanimously convicted him and he received a life sentence; the Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in 2018.
