KISUMU — 1990 · Unsolved Case
Murder of Robert Ouko
Kenyan Foreign Minister Robert Ouko disappeared from his farmhouse at Koru on the night of 12–13 February 1990. His partially burned body was found on 16 February at the foot of Got Alila hill, a few kilometres from his home. Officials initially suggested suicide, but an examination by British Scotland Yard detectives concluded he had been murdered. A judicial commission set up to investigate was abruptly dissolved by President Moi in 1991. A parliamentary inquiry in 2003–2005 and the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission also failed to conclusively identify the killer. No one was ever convicted; it remains one of Kenya's most famous unsolved cases.
