The Underground Sounds of Cappadocia
Folklore — not a documented case
Tales exist of unexplained sounds occasionally reported by visitors to the centuries-old underground cities of the region. There is no scientific confirmation; it is passed on as a piece of folklore.
Cappadocia is home to underground cities — Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı chief among them — that descend dozens of levels. Used as refuges throughout history, these structures were built with ventilation shafts, wells, and stone doors that could be sealed, capable of sheltering thousands of people for months.
